In an effort to grow our teaching, training, and research efforts in new and emerging areas of microbiology, and in concert with our Run2R1 university initiative, we seek to hire up to one additional open-rankĀ faculty. We envision a nexus of collaborative microbial research and instrumentation housed within the recently built Bruce and Gloria Ingram Hall (ca 2018).
Quality teaching is a part of our culture at Texas State, and we seek professors that will be able to train our diverse students how to leverage genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics to answer impactful questions about microbial organisms. We expect that successful candidates will mentor students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, along with acquiring funding to host postdoctoral scholars to assist in the implementation of hierarchical mentoring models, which have been successful here.
To support these efforts, the chosen candidate will be assigned individual laboratory space (~1000 sq ft), which includes dedicated student space, within the same wing neighboring other faculty specializing in cell biology/microbiology/host-pathogen dynamics/genomics/immunology. Rather than a large open concept, the laboratories (currently designated BSL-2) have a hybrid design where pairs of labs are connected, allowing sharing of equipment and facilitating collaboration, while maintaining autonomy when needed or desired.
Each lab is equipped with a built-in chemical hood, a 6ft biosafety cabinet, and a -80C freezer.
